101 Wishes

Published: April 25th, 2006

"I recently started an endeavor that has been a lot harder than I anticipated." writes Autumn Bradley, USA. "It's a list of 101 Wishes. I put no restrictions on it, could be spiritual things, wishes for my family, abstract desires. Anything my heart could dream up I wrote. A few things happened; I realized how small my dreams actually were and how scary it was to write down the deeper dreams that I had.

The list began comprised of things I quite naturally assumed I would accomplish; getting married, not having debt, owning a car, a house, being fluent in all the languages I obsess about. I included desires to see my sister well again, my parents owning the house of their dreams and our dog actually listening to orders.

About a third of the way through, after struggling to think of anything, something happened. I broke some invisible barrier and began to let myself dream larger! To really search deep and not just settle for the 'probably will come true's', at number 33 I had exhaused my list and I still had over 90 to go. I was catching hold of something amazing. A creative power to believe for impossible things; such as sailing across the globe (number 61) or living with Bedouins (number 68).

Have we as children of God forgot what it's like to believe for crazy impossible things? Because He has said all things are possible with him, and that He will give us the desires of our heart. When I align myself with the Lord I think broader, I let myself plumb the depths of my imagination, and most importantly I dialogue with Him.

Number 46 on my list: People would stop hurthing themselves. Number 92: That moonbeams made you glow in the dark. And number 101: World Wide Revival!

Today I challenge you to find fifteen minutes with a pen, piece of paper and a little prayerful imagination. What could your list look like?"
