Global Day of Prayer TODAY!
Published: May 15th, 2005
Today (Sun 15th May) the globe is getting ready to unite in prayer. More than 170 nations (out of 240 countries around the world) are joining in the Global Day of Prayer starting as the sun rises in the east (New Zealand) and continuing until it sets in the West (USA/Canada). As many as 200 million people will come together in prayer around the world in an unprecedented prayer concert that began not in some American Board Room but in Africa. This prayer initiative comes under the International Prayer Council (IPC) and is the culmination of a vision that saw Transformation Africa grow from being a single stadium event back in 2001 to becoming part of a worldwide prayer movement.
Christians around the world are being encouraged to pray asking God for:
- a fresh outpouring of His Spirit
- the salvation and healing of the lost and unreached peoples of all the nations of the world
Jill from Durbanville, South Africa, whose group is running a prayer room above a video store emailed us to ask if the 24-7 movement worldwide can: "Remember South Africa during this time and pray for our 'dark' continent, Africa, which we believe God will flood with His light and redemption."
Bennie Mostert of Jericho Walls Prayer Network , based in South Africa reports: "We hear good reports from Albania in Eastern Europe. They have divided the nation into six zones, and each zone will take a shift of four hours every day. |

In each zone as many churches as possible will be involved to participate. According to people working to mobilise prisons globally to participate, at this point in time there are already 1,000 prisons where prayer watches will be held for the ten days.
In South Africa itself one pastor's wife has mobilised 24 separate watches where people will pray day and night just for young people involved in drugs. We are really seeing somewhat of a prayer awakening amongst our young people in South Africa....Praise the Lord for drawing our people to Himself in intimacy! Proclaim that God will direct our steps as we seek to be intimate with Him in all levels of our life (Proverbs 3:6)."
