What is 24-7 Prayer?

The 24-7 Prayer movement is a global, non-stop prayer meeting that began in 1999 amongst the young people of Revelation church in Chichester, England. It has spread into more than ninety nations and most Christian denominations, giving birth to mission and justice initiatives around the globe. Thanks to an innovative approach to spirituality and culture, 24-7 Prayer has captured the attention of newspapers and magazines from Rolling Stone to Readers Digest and was the subject of a British television documentary.

What is the aim of 24-7 Prayer?

24-7 Prayer exists to transform the world through movements and communities of Christ-centered, mission-minded prayer.

24-7 is not a radical discovery or a program. In fact it's the oldest, simplest idea there is... that we were made to walk in intimate, unbroken friendship with God. 24-7 is just a way of getting as many people as possible to lock themselves in a room with God for an hour and see what happens. Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment is to love God. That really is the very heartbeat of the movement. 24-7 Prayer exists to transform society and turn the tide in youth culture. How does 24-7 Prayer work in practice?

Participating groups simply find a venue in which to establish a night-and-day prayer vigil by splitting each day into one-hour shifts, thus filling anything from a weekend to many years with an unbroken chorus of prayer and worship. 24-7 Prayer has taken place in surprising locations, from cathedrals to nightclubs and a teepee at a New Age Festival, a van in the slums of Delhi, the British Houses of Parliament, a prison in South Africa, the U.S. Naval Academy, a shop in Northern Ireland, a surf competition in Mexico and a Brewery in Missouri. Many of these vigils link up here on the web, forming a unique chain of global intercession. You can view some of the groups praying right now.

All this means that right now, someone somewhere is praying 24-7 and that's been happening every minute of every hour of every day since 1999.

What else does 24-7 Prayer do?

24-7 Prayer is committed to turning prayer into practical action. As a result there are 24-7 missionaries serving some of the poorest people in the world. Creativity, hospitality and mission emanate from many of the prayer rooms. Various other ministries have been launched, including Campus America, Living Generously, 24-7 Ibiza and The Order of the Mustard Seed. 24-7 Prayer produces many resources to equip people in prayer, including training courses such as Transit and this website, which welcomes more than 150,000 unique visitors every month.

At the heart of the 24-7 movement there is an expanding network of communities inspired by ancient Celtic monasticism and committed to celebrating Christ-centered lifestyles of prayer, mission and justice. These communities are variously known as 'Boiler Rooms', '24-7 communities' or 'Houses of Prayer'. Their six core practices are: creativity and prayer, hospitality and mercy, learning and mission.
